Nail Removal from drywall.?

recently bought a house, and it has ugly wood paneling in some of the rooms. Anyway I have all the paneling down, just removing all the nails now, and some nails, i just cat get. The head on top of the nail is so thin, i cant get a grip on it to pull out. Mind you, they aren't embedded into the drywall, i have about .5inches to grab and pull. anyway, does anyone have any ideas, ive tried pliers and vice grips, no luck...wanna get these nails out so i can touch up the walls and paint.
