How do you store a ring mandrel?

I make bead and wire jewelry as a hobby. My pliers, cutters, caliper, etc, are stored in a leather pouch that has little pieces of elastic sewn in to hold each tool in place. My jewelry boards come with their own covers, so they do not require any additional protection. I am now at a loss as to how to store my ring mandrel. It is a rather long and cumbersome object. I should like to know how other jewelers out there store their ring mandrel. I should like to add that hanging the thing on the wall is not an option. Thanks.
