Repair a necklace with broken stones.?

I dropped my beaded stone necklace on the floor and two of the stones (which were teardrop shaped) broke off at the bottom. Is there an easy way to remove the broken beads from the string without having to take the necklace apart? I'm thinking maybe trying to break them by crushing with pliers?
